Silent Retreat

Our CG had our very first silent retreat with Dr Chew Tow Yow. We had a blessed time alone (not together this time because we weren’t allowed to speak to one another). Many shared at the end of it (partly due to the fact that we have had to stay silent for about 36 hours ;). Here’s the full gallery of pictures.

More Feasting

This year’s CNY celebration!

On top of the usual dinner at Ah Mah’s place, we hosted the rest of the clan at the Bays. It’s special for us this year because Sar Khor who has lived in England for decades made it to Penang this year, just for CNY. It’s important for the family unit, especially the Chinese, to be around at festive seasons, and Sar Khor has set a good example for the rest of the clan to follow, it ain’t the distance but the desire and heart! :)

Got the cousins and Ashley to help with the Beef Wellington. Yee Sang, Char Hor Fun, Or Koay, and erm… Pizza’s on the menu!

WAM2010 Planning Retreat

Just got this month’s TNB bill – RM 109.05 – a record low! That’s cos we’ve been travelling so many weekends.

The 2009/10 team went for our first planning retreat. I must say God has been very gracious to us, and He’s been with us in our wilderness years, shaping us to do His work.

Apart from planning & evaluating, we got ourselves several hours of round table discussion with our friends from DUMC – a church blessed with many committed people.

Then, there’s the makan and makan and makan! sorry ah, no pictures of our discussions, only food :P

Banyan Tree Phuket ’09

I realized the last post was 3 months ago (!!). We’ve been really busy, an ad hoc holiday seem doable. Osaka got struck off the list just minutes before we were to confirm flight and accommodation (due to the sudden surge in H1N1 cases in Osaka & Tokyo) – then came the Banyan Tree ad on the internet, and we picked Phuket after considering Bintan for practical reasons. Had a really great time just resting at the resort, it was our first trip to Thailand (the closest I”ve been to was the old airport when I was on transit to Tokyo hehe).

Jesus I Am Thirsty

For those of us who are filling empty & dry, let us ask Him to fill us, lay your burdens at the foot of the cross

[Track recorded live at Trinity Methodist Church Penang, sung by Juwita Suwito & Liang on March 30, 2008]

Jesus I Am Thirsty
By Don Harris & Marty Nystrom

Verse
Jesus I am thirsty
Won’t you come and fill me?
Earthly things have left me dry
Only You can satisfy
All I want is more of You

Chorus
All I want is more of You
All I want is more of You
Nothing I desire, Lord but more of You
All I want is more of You
All I want is more of You
Nothing I desire, Lord but more of You
More of You

What A Great Morning!

[UPDATES] 2009-04-16

“He Will Rule The World”, sung together with the church school children – who seemed to have overpowered the adults.

[UPDATES] 2009-04-15

We’re excited to have received 3 comments to our YouTube entry, 2 from the folks who gave us this beautiful song.

One of the writers of “What A Great Morning”, Mr Sean Smith found our YouTube video and was kind enough to have dropped us a message:

“Oh this is so beautiful! I loved watching and listening!” Sean Smith

Then the arranger, Mr Dave Williamson dropped in 4 hours later with the message:

“Praise God for You!” Dave Williamson

This is my personal favourite :) And here’s the lyrics

Verse 1
Friday night the Son of God was buried
We died with Him and cried the night away
Then came the news, out of the tomb
He is alive again

Chorus
What a great morning, so unexpected
How did the light burst through the clouds and drive them away?
Jesus Christ is risen
All our sins forgiven
What a great morning, what a great day!

Verse 2
Friday nights they come around too often
We’re bruised and beaten, driven to despair
Then comes the news, out of the tomb
We are alive with Him!

Chorus

Bridge
Jesus Christ is risen!
All our sins forgiven!
(Hallelujah! Hallelujah!)
What a great morning,What a great morning!

Chorus

Ending
What a great day!
What a great day!

Son of the Most High

After a weeks of practice, it was a relieve for us to have managed to pull through 3 pieces for Easter. The Choir practiced hard (highest turnout to date), the men turned out stronger than usual, and the small group of vocalists stayed back diligently to help the soloist.

Last Sunday, the song was brought out and sung the way it was written for. The message of the Most High’s son, coming to us, to die for us while we were yet sinners, so that His Father’s will may be fulfilled.

MetroEast CG Retreat to Cameron Highlands

Our first CG retreat (after meeting as a group for about 2 years) became a reality last weekend. We’ve been talking about this for a few months in fact, making arrangements and trying to fit each other’s calendar (it’s not easy), Praise God we did it! Thanks to Janice for organizing the trip :)

We had a good time catching up and getting to know each other better albeit a short trip, it was time well spent up in the hills. I was rather disappointed with the weather though, expected it to be cooler. This is actually my first trip up Cameron’s hehe.

Glad to have ended the trip at the Boh Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas. Have seen some nice photos of the plantation but nothing beats being there in person.
